Abstract

Today, the market and technology offer architects a wide range of coloring solutions for facade finish. One might say that, with a sufficient budget, there is little to no limit. The article discusses a method that offers justification for selecting a color palette (coloristic code) for development in different settlements, taking into account regional specificities. This method can be used both to study and analyze the prerequisites for the formation of an already existing architectural environment, as well as to justify the choice of coloristic solutions for newly designed objects or to develop urban planning recommendations (in documents such as land use and development regulations or improvement regulations). The methodology integrates for the first time three groups of factors: cultural-historical, resource (local building materials) and climate. An example of establishing a relationship between the parameters under analysis and the color solution was taken from Shanghai. In the long run, the methodology could be adapted for automated selection of facade palettes in urban planning systems and used for educational purposes in the training of color architects.
